Hitler's Aggressive Movements that Sparked the Second World War

  • Germany withdraws from the Geneva Conference and the League of Nations, promising to cooperate
  • Rearmament of the Rhineland-Germany goes directly against the Treaty of Versailles by rearming the Rhineland; this causes discomfort to the French, but the British are willing to appease the Germans; America attempts to stay out of foreign affairs
  • Increased army/creation of air force-Germany begins conscription of soldiers and the creation of the Luftwaffe; the actions were condemned by the League of Nations (especially France) but no action is taken
  • Annexation of Austria-Hitler is able to place Nazis in high-ranking government positions in Austria; the Germany Army is able to invade Austria with no opposition
  • Hitler attacks Poland with Russia-Germany and Russia attack Poland, which finally starts WWII
